Jacy is 4 Months Old!

It is hard to believe that Jacy is going to be 4 months old tomorrow! She actually had her 4-month check-up with her Dr. On Wednesday. She is 9lbs. 12 oz. and 21 inches long. She is a very sweet baby and we are having so much fun with her! She is now smiling at us, and has even given us some out loud giggles when we play peek-a-boo with her. They melt our hearts!!!

The Pediatrician is happy with her weight gain, but is concerned about her head. The measurement of her head circumference has increased 5 centimeters in the past month, which is more than normal. The head becoming enlarged is one of the signs that the ventricles are becoming enlarged with fluid and putting pressure on the brain. We have been scheduled for another brain MRI next Wednesday July 27th. We don't know what the outcome will be, but we are preparing ourselves mentally for the possibility of her needing shunts. A shunt is a tube that would run from her brain to her abdomen, allowing the abdomen to absorb the extra fluid from her brain, releasing the pressure. Shunts are very common, but can come with their own set up complications. Again, we don't know yet if shunts are needed. We will know more after the MRI. Please keep our little angle in your thoughts and prayers!

An occupational therapist came to our home to evaluate Jacy a couple weeks ago. She was pleased with how well she was doing. If Jacy would have been born on my due date, which is how they measure her development, she would have been 5 weeks old at the time of the evaluation. After the evaluation the therapist told us that she was at the level of about a 4 week old, so not too far behind. We have been accepted into an early intervention program with the state of Arizona and they will send a therapist to our home each month to work with Jacy and to show us exercises and movements that we can do with Jacy to help her along. We are excited and grateful that this program is available to us!

I am thankful that Jacy travels well because we have some exciting trips coming up. Jacy has a new cousin that was born last week. We are going to St. Johns this weekend to meet her for the first time! Jacy will also get to swim in a swimming pool for the first time at her other cousins birthday party!

On August 5th Jacy, Auntie Jennifer, and I will fly to Las Vegas, where we will meet up with the rest of the Richardson clan for a family reunion. Most of them will get to meet Jacy for the first time. We can't wait! Next, Labor Day weekend Jacy, Daddy, and me are flying to Spokane Washington to hang out with the Simmer Gang for the long weekend. We look forward to seeing them again, and getting out of this nasty heat!

We hope that all is well with you and your family!
Love you to all!
Jody
