Jacy-October 2007

Jacy is growing up so fast! She is a beautiful little girl and has such an amazing little personality! She is an awesome big sister to Jake and loves him so much! She has become quite the little talker and most things that come out of her mouth really makes us laugh!

She is 2 1/2 years old going on 16! She loves to get dressed up with her hair in bows. She has just started to enjoy playing dress up and has even started asking me for make-up! She has mastered the art of pushing her baby in her stroller, while talking on the cell phone and carrying her purse. She is going to make a great mom someday! Thanks to her Daddy she isn't ALL girly girly. She loves to play with her new Transformer cars! As you can see in the picture, she played until she just couldn't play anymore! Potty training isn't going really great right now... she would rather use her princess potty seat as a picture frame! She is starting to say so many funny things. Currently, her responses for most things are "It was amazing" while giving very dramatic hand gestures, "It was freaking me out!", and "Oh, I see." When she knows that she is doing something that she shouldn't be she asks, "Am I being bad?" She has also started telling us how proud of us she is when we do something. Very sweet! One of my favorites happened just the other day... I was holding Jake and he was crying. She came over to him and patted his tummy and said, "Oh. Poor thing. You don't like mommy?" I just cracked up! Jacy had a great Halloween. She would walk all over the house with her vampire teeth and sneak out to snuggle with Frankenstein on the porch when ever she had the opportunity.


Jacy has been dealing with a lot of medical issues these past couple of months. Her Neurosurgeon is concerned that the increase in urinary tract infections is because of her spinal cord being attached to the scar tissue from her fetal surgery. Instead of the cord growing with her it is stretching as she grows taller. This could be causing further nerve damage that is effecting her bowel and bladder function and if left untreated it could cause her to loose strength and function in her legs. She is scheduled for a full sedation MRI on Monday, which we hope will answer some questions. If it is determined that it is the cord causing the problem we are likely looking at surgery within the next couple of weeks. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Native Drums

For the past 6 weeks Jayne's class (all the 4th and 5th graders) at school have been working with a resident artist learning about the  Tlingit (KLING kit), the Haida (HIGH duh) and the Tsimshian (SIM she ann) native tribes of Southeast Alaska. They have learned how to introduce themselves in the native tongue. They have learned about the art and form styles used in totems and the meanings behind the symbols. They even had the opportunity to make a deer skin drum (Goo-jow), including soaking the deer skin and stretching it over the wood drum frame and letting it set until it hardened. Once it was completely dry they got to draw their chosen native symbol on the drum and the paint it. They look SO COOL! They even made their own drum stick using a stick, fabric, buck leather, and deer tendon, which was used as the string to tie it all together. This past week the students performed for the rest of the school, singing a song/chant in the native tongue. It is a welcome message...

Whale Watching

This weekend was BEAUTIFUL weather!!!  We have all been feeling a little under the weather, but we have made sure to get outside a little each day.  On Saturday we were fortunate enough to be downtown by the cruise ships docks and caught a few glimpses of a humpback whale!  When they bubble feed you can see a ring of bubble start to surface on the water and then they come straight up the center with open mouths to feed.  It is so cool to see them!  They are really big!  Sunday afternoon was a nice drive to all the great spots that we love to view the ocean from.  It was a gorgeous sunset!  Someday I still can't believe that we live here!!!
