The 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk 2008
This 
past weekend I participated in the 3-Day Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk. I survived! It is so much fun to come and see the people and the teams dressed up and ready to go! There is so much energy and they always have a really motivating opening ceremony to get everyone started. The really amazing part is the number of people who come out (some are there all 3 days!) to cheer us on. 
Kids run to the fence of the schools to cheer and clap. People decorate their cars and drive past us all day long honking and waving at us. It is so great! They really make the walking part so much more fun! The 3-Day organization really has the event planned out well. Each morning when we start the walk we are provided a card of the route that provides the mileage for the day and the locations of the "pit stops" where the provide snacks, drinks, and a potty stop.
I ate better during those 3 days that I have in a while! =) My favorite pit-stop was baseball themed: Boobie Ball Park-Saving 2nd base! I opted to go home each night (and soak in my own tub for as long as I wanted) rather than camping out...which I think was the best choice for me.

Thank you cheerleaders!!! My other cheering squad was none other than the Warner family! Thank you Mary, Nik, and Madi for coming to the cheering station and cheering me on!!! I loved my sign! =) Mary's mother-in-law, Johanna, was also a walker and I did get to join her on the trail for a couple of miles on the first day. One of the pit stops along the way was a
actually at the park across the street from my Grandma Greta and Pardner. They made their way over to cheer me on as well. You are all wonderful! Thank you so much for your support!!!

My favorite Team: Save The BooBEES! (They were dressed in black and yellow with bee headband antennas on!)
Favorite slogans: Support the Sisters and Us Ta Ta's hang together
Favorite Supporter: This guy would stop at several places along the route, and each time he would have a new themed costume and sign.
-Elephant suit:I will never forget the walkers!
-Tall silly red/white/blue hat: stop the war in MY RACK!
-Doctor scrubs: FREE BREAST EXAMS!
-Pirate: Treasure Ye Chest!

ReplyDeleteJeep Guy was in San Diego too. He tries to make it to as many as possible. He lost his wife a few years ago. I don't know if you saw the little lady in the clown suit, I know she hits AZ too. She has a sign that says "34 year cancer survivor and still clowning around." Her hubby who is in a wheel chair wears a sign that says "I'm a boob man" their daughter teaches second grade at my kids school. The cheerers get the walkers through.
