Happy Thanksgiving

I love this time of year! It reminds everyone to express their gratitude and makes us a little more aware of the blessings that we enjoy in our everyday lives. I am so thankful for our family, friends, health, income, home... and the list could go on and on.

To celebrate Thanksgiving this year we headed up to Show Low/St. Johns to spend it with my family. This year was a little different for us, because we brought our own LIVE turkey for dinner! We had bought the turkey earlier in the year with the purpose of feasting on it for Thanksgiving. It was quite a site to see Kennedy (yep, we had named her!) all boxed up with a peek window in the back of the car for the road trip. She was trying so hard to save herself that she even laid an egg in the box while on the road! Once we got to Grandma Debby's house, Jay and Grandpa Zeke took care of Kennedy in the backyard. I think that Jay learned his lesson not to hang on to a "chicken with it's head cut off" for too long! We weren't sure exactly how Jacy was going to react to the whole thing, but when Kennedy was all plucked and clean Jay brought her in the house and Jacy was just amazed that it was the same Turkey. Jacy didn't have any problems feasting on the dinner either. After her first bite she said, "MMMM, Kennedy is delicious!" Thanksgiving night it was off to St. Johns for more dessert! Jake really wanted to try the cherry pie and couldn't wait any longer.... he climbed right up on the table and started eating it with his fingers! And of coarse dessert wasn't complete without a mouthful of whipping cream from the can! The kids really had a great time jumping in the piles of leaves that Grandpa John was raking up in the front yard and then stomping them down in the garbage can to make more room! We had a great time hanging out with Grandpa John, Grandma Linda, and my brother Jon's family for a couple of days! Then, back to Show Low for some Geocaching with Grandma Debby and hanging out with Jay and Grandpa Zeke when they would come in from the hunt each night. They day after Thanksgiving was the opening day of Jay's Bull Elk hunt. Him and Grandpa Zeke were off hunting everyday. It was a bummer that they didn't see ANY bull elk during the 7 day hunt! I got to go hunting with them on the last day. It was so much fun that I think I might give hunting a try next year!
