September in Review

We started September off with a quick day trip to the Christopher Creek cabin to hang out with Pardner and Grandma Greta. The weather was so beautiful! We enjoyed sitting out on the back porch. Jacy and Pardner took a walk to the creek to throw some rocks into the COLD water. They had a great time! Since the weather here in the valley wasn't cooling down any Jay decided to put up the pool in the backyard. The kids loved swimming in the afternoons! Jay has also started to teach Jake about the chores that he will be helping with as he gets older. Now, on Saturday mornings they get up and go mow the lawn together! =) In mid September my very brave mother invited me and the kids on a road trip to Colorado Springs for a Kent family reunion. Brave Brave Brave! We really had a great time! We drove to Show Low on Thursday night and were loading and hitting the road for Colorado on Friday morning at 5:00am. It took us just over 14 hours to get there. There were lots of potty stops for Jacy. We took her little training potty in the back of the truck so that we could stop when and where ever we needed to. Saturday and Sunday we met up with Pardner, Grandma Greta, Uncle Greg, and Aunt Jill, and got to visit with our extended family who lives in Colorado. We also had a small funeral service for my Great Uncle Rollo and visited where my Great Grandparents are buried. After the service we drove around the small town of Manzanola and my grandma pointed out some of the different houses that she lived in while she was growing up. It was fun to have her share some of her memories with us. I hadn't been to Colorado Springs in about 23 years. It was really great to get to see everyone again. One of the highlights of the trip was to geting to visit with my Great Aunt Luella and her friend in the nursing home where they live. My aunt is 96 years old and is as sharp as ever. They really had us laughing! As we walked out of the home Jacy said, "Well, those ladies were fun!" Yes-they were! On Monday morning at 5:00am it was time to hit the road again. The original plan was to make it to Show Low and then drive the rest of the way on Tuesday, but the kids were so great and we made such good time that we made it all the way home to see Daddy on Monday night. We were on the road for 16 hours and the kids were only out of the car seats 3 times!!! No crying, no complaining! The stops we did make were long, so the kids could strech their legs and play for a while, which helped, but thank goodness for the travel DVD set up!!! We watched movie after movie and the kids loved it! Thank you Justin, for letting us borrow it! Thank you mom for a fun trip... when's the next one?
